Wil Moore is a self-taught artistic photographer from Detroit, Michigan.
He considers himself an artistic photographer because his accomplished fine art skills has allowed him to merge his training as a traditional artist with the art of photography. Wil's photographic skills include the tradition of film as well as digital.
Wil later earned a degree in Computer Graphic design and Fine art and through his inspiration to create from his father, Wil Moore Sr., at age 6, Wil's life as an artist emerged and has always been a journey for him. While serving in the armed forces Wil was afforded the opportunity to travel and see many countries of which much of his subject matter stem from.
Currently Wil is represented by the Famous E&S Art Gallery out of Louisville Kentucky for his well known dry point etchings and Gallery Stock out of New York and can also be seen on YouTube in a weekly VLOG, Somewhere in America - Wil Moore, sharing laughter and photography tips.
Q/A with Wil Moore
1.What’s your artistic background?
My father began teaching me at 6. I later developed my skills by reading art books and practicing. Afterward I disciplined myself by going to college and earning a degree in fine art.
2. What does your work aim to say?
I desire that my work express my social conscience as well as expresses the simplistic beauty of Gods earth and those that live in it.
3. How does your work comment on current social or political issues?
I try to shed light on the conditions around us through street photography. Having a freelance photojournalist position also allows me to really express what I'm really seeing through my lens.
4. Who are your biggest influences?
My Father. He was a cando kinda guy. Outside of him I'd say Joe McNally's work really moves me.
5. How do you seek out opportunities?
Opportunities find you. Chasing paper does nothing but wear me out. Slow and steady always wins the race. Present yourself and not your work. If people like you they'll gladly work with you.
6. How do you navigate the art world- any advice for other artists?
Stay true to yourself and always seek ways to create with fresh eyes. If you feel you're in an artist rut. You're right where you need to be because pretty soon a burst of inspiration will come out of no where and you wont be able to stop. Lol.
7. What adversity have you faced as an artist, and how have you handled or overcome these challenges?
You'll always face adversity. Truth is everyone's a diva these days and many feel threatened by the next artist up and coming. But remember that they dont do what you do and theres nothing new under the sun.
